Short of nuking the entire area with a few missiles, I don't see how they could have moved any quicker than the the current pace.

First, they had the logistical problem of building up the military in the area while at the same time getting the diplomacy lined up on their side.

Next, the air strikes begin in order to knock out most defenses. The ground forces then move in to clean up and win the war.

Later comes occupation while a new government is formed. All of this takes time while fighting a limited war on the other side of the world.

Btw, have you ever served in the military?
