It was a patch to fix WIN 95 bugs! I got it only because it was a patch which fixed other problems.

Expensive patch too!

Dave, I don't know if you followed the market closely back then but so many of the analysts were surprised how well Windows 98 did. I admit that the PCs were still in a strong growth period back then and that could have been a factor as well. Of course Windows ME was a non-event and analysts were right on that one.

As for the Nasdaq market--what happens if we get positive stories of how fast the upgrades and/or new PCs are selling? Initial success will feed upon itself and word of mouth will make it a huge success and result in another push higher for the tech sector. (in that scenario the PC/semis will probably outperform MSFT)

In my mind there is no doubt of how big XP is going to be. I am just waiting for the confirmation; probably taking profits (on my trading position--keeping the core investment) after the first positive sales article and then buy upon the next pullback.

XP is much bigger than W98; there is no doubt about it. I realize you and "timetobuy" doubt the potential of XP but you will be surprised, imho. Stability of the O/S should be the key driver.
