>>>The 90% approval figure <<< This is about the same that his father had at the start of the gulf war..

There are several major problems that the current president faces...

1) Bush is almost one year into his presidency and the economy is still sliding badly. Don't forget that it was the poor economy that killed his fathers bid for a second term. "Its the economy stupid".

2) A lack of progress in the anti-terrorist campaign, will ruin his re-election prospects. (He has made a lot of promises).

3) Bush has to solve the Bin Ladin problem plus the rest of the middle east. (radical Muslims). That's a big order.

4)Most of the ME countries have supported Bush with lip service and not much more. We can count our friends in the area on three fingers (India, Russia, Israel)....The problematic countries (lip service only)are Egypt, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAR, Lybia, and a few others I forgot about.

If the situation in Afghanistan is resolved then these other Muslim countries will want the US to back off, because the objective was realized. And here is where Bush's re-election runs into a brick wall. Muslim hostility toward the US has to be greatly reduced for him to get re-elected.
