Hi Ted,

Well, I've waited for your lunch to digest and hopefully you've gotten dinner in as well, so for the benefit of those new to the game, here's a link to the Bre-X Saga (if you went to happy hour and haven't the stomach for it, better stop now <VBG>).

For the curious (morbid or otherwise) who want to read the Bre-X thread (about post #20000 is a good start as any, the afternoon of Apr 30, 1997) go to Subject 5725 My father used to admonish me (not always with success), "A wise man learns from others' mistakes." Bre-X and a number of other early internet investment cult/scams are instructive as the known outcome permits a clarity of vision and understanding not available to the original posters. And it may serve as a template to measure other contemporary efforts to sway investors views (and grab their $$s).

Peace and Justice --- Patrick

Bre-X...The battle between bulls and bears on SI
by David Zgodzinski

Sunday, May 4. Before the news hit, the Bre-X thread at the Silicon Investor web site had the aura of the Last Chance Saloon at High Noon.

All the suspense of a gunfight in bright sunlight. Everyone knows everything. Nobody knows anything. There was only the waiting until the word - "draw" and the thing would be settled in one second.

The Bre-X saga has been shaped by all the forces of a modern myth, Fear, Greed, Death, Deceit, Struggle, and finally, the Truth.

The amphitheater for this passion play has been the computer screen on desks around the world, as thousands tuned in to the Silicon Investor web site to read all the latest posts. ...............................
