>Compaq shipped the first Commercial 80386 system in September, 1986.<

In the first place, Compaq did not ship the first Commercial 80386 system, but they did ship the first 80386 PC. There was another company, I can't remember their name, that shipped the first 80386 system as a desktop workstation.

In the second place, I did not state the first commercial 80386 system, I stated, "The 386 first shipped in a PC in 1985." which, BTW, was in the form of a coprocessor card in a 286 based PC. I used this as my example because I was arguing that the amount of time elapsed was less than Tench stated. Your example would have perhaps been more relevant, but I wanted to give Tench as much benefit of doubt as possible.
