Vouchers were, for the most part, a ploy by right-wingers to try to capture more of the Catholic parent vote. Inner-city parents don't want vouchers; they want better schools. White suburbanites aren't big fans of vouchers either. There's a reason why they moved to the 'burbs in the first place, and they don't want no inner-city kids infiltrating their school districts. Congress isn't keen on vouchers, and they were voted down by huge margins (70-30) in California and Michigan last Nov. 8.

Vouchers are another example of a "sound-good" proposal by Republicans that unravels easily under scrutiny.
