Craig, I believe that SNDK is marking its ownership to market, for instance, the UMC investment was marked down by $120 MM between December 31 2000 and June 30 2001, in the last quarter they further reduced that investment to $29 MM taking a charge of $110 MM on foundry investment (Tower and UMC). Frankly, when (if ) UMC stock goes back up, the current book value of $8.8/ share could easily be increased by few bucks again. They also have quite a big chunk of cash and short term investment (about $4/share or about $270 MM). As for Toshiba, I did not know they were trying to "dump" the new facility, where is this info from?

"...SNDK's "book value" is hard to determine. SNDK invested a gazillion bucks in
a Toshiba plant but Toshiba seems more interested in dumping that plant than
in making semis for sale..."

Craig, I got this vision of SanDisk personnel loading the wafer polishers and
lithography equipment through the front door of Dominion and some Toshiba
employees carrying the same equipment out the back door and selling it for
20¢ on the dollar. What exactly do you mean by this statement?
