Thanks and that's about all it would take to find a common garter snake. The article you found identifies the snake as a rare SF garter snake (which I never heard of) and did not try to portray the incident as trivially as Newsmax did. The fact that it is so rare modifies the story considerably. Most of us know the garter snake is very very common. Gao Seng has probably eaten a few....

BART already has spent close to $6 million to comply with environmental laws and has relocated more than 75 snakes.

Expensive snakes. $450,000 per. The state of California is secure.
