Unfortunately, more people would pay for the 2 GHz P4. Many people assume a higher price translates to higher quality.

Most of the world does not buy processors- they buy PC's! And till INTC can keep AMD out of the commercial lines people will pay whatever INTC will charge for their processors.

About 6 months ago I was trying to recomment a "main stream" (read top 5) PC with an Athlon processor with Win2000 to a friend who was ready to buy it for his work.

I could not find a single configuration with Athlon + Win2K!

Not even in the consumer lines. Win2K was not even an option that any of the top 5 manufacturers offered for a price. He had to go with an Intel PC.

I don't think that the situation is any different these days.
