>SOMEWHERE in there Chamberlain and the rest of Europe dropped the ball
Why do think Winston Churchill replaced Chamberlain? Dropping the ball is a very nice way to say it was a clusterf*ck.

>> Then I submit to those historians that Chamberlain should have stopped Hitler sooner than that. Between 1933 and 1939 Germany went from one of the weakest nations in Europe to easily the single strongest <<

"In the years that are coming, there is more reason to fear for Germany than to fear Germany"
--Times of London July 1934

many britons believed (rightfully) that the treaty of versailles imposed on germany was punitive, unjust, and vindictive. so they didn't see a problem with germany taking back what was rightfully hers, and reunifying her people. also, many were more worried about communism and stalin than hitler. prominent statesman met hitler and walked away with nothing but good things to say.

>> SOMEWHERE in there Chamberlain and the rest of Europe dropped the ball. You can't get around that. <<

so britain and france should have declared war on germany before or after the olympics? :)
