I think society and societal norms puts the notion of "gay" and "straight" into it. Sexual pleasure is largely about feeling good (to me). Pair bonding is about relationships. I think strong emotional relationships can exist in vacuo (sexually speaking). Dogs don't really care who is petting them, do they? I mean they want it to be someone or something that they like, but short of that, I don't get the feeling they care all that much. Sexual gratification for them is just another case of feeling good.
