The early versions of Winstone used small datasets which could run totally in a small L1 cache. When Intel started putting large fast L2 caches inside the CPU, AMD'ers complained that the K6 was penalized because of slow motherboard cache.

Since one of the P4's main weaknesses is it's tiny L1 data cache, I suspect it would "like" benchmarks like Winstone 98.
