That COT data is an imperfect science but from what I can see, the commercials essentially are just taking the other side of the small spec+large spec trade. Take a look at the chart John just posted. The commercial posiiton is really just a mirror image of the small spec+large spec position. You won't see the commercials net long until the other guys are cumulative net short. Watch the next market decline and see how quick the small spec's longs drop (if they do). You may see the commercials flip to the long side if the little guy suddenly turns bear here.
