thus increasing the perception that this was offense directly against the King and the Pashtuns, as well as creating the impression that internal elements are taking the lead in overthrowing the Taliban.

But the other side of that would be that if we claimed we tried to save him, but failed... we could receive the brunt of the righteous indignation from his clan, rather than it being directed at the Taliban.


I like the "first side" better than the "other side of that."

Still, I wonder whether the in-fighting is going to distract everybody from the real foe.
