I too was surprised at the signifiance NOK gave to Edge.
But then again they had to present something, right.
If not for Edge they had not much else until WCDMA.
Juha would have looked even sillier then he did with Belk showcasing all the available devices against just GPRS!

I'm still at a loss why there will be any WCDMA or EDGE at all so have no clue as to why the timing of each will be what it is.

There stupidity is so profound it makes me wonder if I'm missing something and that in fact I'm not the stupid one.

The guy on Wall Street Week also said techs should be underweighted, that communications infra cos would not see big recovery for two years and not to look at the leaders in the last boom to be huge winners in the next one. However, when asked for the area of tech he thought would do well, he said "wireless" and Qualcomm was the only company he mentioned based on 2.5G, although he did say 3G would not be here for another two years. Thus, in effect, he recognized Qualcomm as the leading company in the transition until the carriers really start installing cdma2000-WCDMA. While maybe screwing up on nomenclature, he did understand Qcom being far ahead and that 1x is gonna be big.

<< Speaking of peckerheads, how 'bout that Steven Milunovich (chief technology dude for Merrill Lynch) on Louis Rukeyser last night. He said it would be
"several years" before the US would see 3G. How come these folks are so stupid? >>

Because AT&T told them so....
