BirdDog, Maybe we let Israel form because we had no better response to where do the WWII Jewish refugees go? We blame hitler for atrocities, but persecuting Jews predates him, no? We got an instant friend in the region, and the dominant one at that. A state independent of us, yet wholly dependent on us. Mollified rich constituents. Assuaged guilt. Fought communism. Planted another democracy. The benefits from the events of 1948 are substantial in the US scheme of things. And hot bagels too.
