Bill......." The story is, I am sure, inextricably tied both to the decline and fall of the Ottoman Empire as well as the discovery of oil in the Middle East."......

I would think that the discovery of oil should have caused the Arabs to vault into the 20th century but this did not occur, for a few maybe but not the majority.

When I was a lot younger I worked in the Arctic and the Eskimos there were very backwards according to our standards but in just a short time they have made a big leap forward in their use of modern technologies. They now have schools, cars, tv, ski-doos indoor plumbing etc. all this in about 50 years. But the one thing that I don't recall them having was any kind of organized religion. This is what I think is the the big stumbling block in the Arab countries. They have a religion and a mindset that will not permit them to move forward. So they have to get rid of us no matter what the cost. So it's them or us,no way around it and they will have to go. They seem to be in a big hurry to go anyway.
