That's because AMD didn't defer any expenses as goodwill when they merged with Nexgen.

There wasn't any claimed, so there wasn't any goodwill to writedown.

Only NT (later had to take a $19 Billion charge in a single quarter), Intel, and other companies that drastically overpay for dot bombs and try to hide the costs from their quarterly reports have to assume big "goodwill" entries.
