Zeev...Bad reporting knows no bounds....

In third world countries (Africa and South America) when I used to buy local papers (French and Spanish) I used to marvel at how outrageous some of the stories were. It might as well have been the National Enquirer. Any truth to the stories printed was strictly accidental.

It is my opinion that Giuliani, played his hand poorly.

>>>Giuliani rejecting a ten million dollar donation from
Saudi Arabian prince al-Walid ibn Talal after the latter made reference to the “root cause”,

What the Prince said is that the US should re-evauate our relationships in the ME. I'm not sure the term "Root Cause" was in his statement, but inferred by the New York Press and Giuliani.

In Monday's WSJ (Oct 22, page A12) the issue of re-evaluating the ME situation is addressed . . And the article goes on to say that there is a linkage between Israeli/Palestinean problems ..."For President Bush the Afghan and Israeli conflicts are intimately related".. ..Now thats a far cry from the term "root cause", and the press should be more careful about such incendiary language.

So what have we learned thus far...The Prince said to re-evaluate the ME relationships...my conclusions would the following...

1) Russia is a lot more helpful than expected.
2) Israel is more aggressive than usual
3) Arafat is on this ice with both the Israeli's and the Americans
4)Egypt, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are of no help and for the most part giving us lip service instead of co-operation.

Perhaps we are closer to a Palestinean state if Israel does not make too many pre-conditions. This might lessen the resentments against us in the Arab world.

Thanks for posting conceptions of the Arab Press. There must be a contest there as to whole can publish the most outlandish statements and still sell newspapers.

For my part I will do some research this week to see if the Prince did use the term "root cause". I will report back.

Regards, Jerome
