Art, re: I can't imagine a situation where a dominant company in the manufacture of flash memory chips would seek to leave the industry now.

Sometimes companies react to short term stress by making decisions that are misguided. Doesn't take much imagination to see how it could happen here. The issue has less to do with whether Toshiba is dominant in flash memory than whether the flash memory business is a large and strategic part of Toshiba.
