OT/wood talk

Here in LA, I have found that "duralog" burns really nicely in my fireplace (complete with gas starter, of course). Duralog grows plentifully at my local grocery store, with a cord of it setting me back a mere five bucks. Also, I'm pleased to say that the heat generated by "duraflame" doesn't even cause my cool, crisp Evian bottle to sweat, cuz you know there's nothing worse than that in the middle of winter when the temperatures suddenly plunge overnight to 56 and the heavy furs come out. Coats, that is. On nights like that, when we can't even imagine surfing the next day without our wetsuits, I hope you'll all send some warm thoughts my way.

OT: $150 -$160 / cord.
I don't feel so bad now.
I remember paying approx. $75 not too long ago and then it seemed that they raised the price as oil prices shot higher.

Two winters ago I refused to burn any wood.
My oil company had agreed to lock me into a fixed oil price of 79 cent/ gallon the year before to stop me from shopping around for better prices.
Right after that crude prices jumped through the roof.
While oil was near $2.00 a gallon I was still paying $79 cents.
I wanted to sell the friggin stuff to my neighbors... <vbg>
I could have made a killing...

I felt bad for the dude.
I almost expected him to say, "Sorry but I can't afford the losses" and I would have allowed him to raise my price some.
He never did.
So now I'm still sticking with him even though I could get it a little cheaper.
Got to keep honorable small businessmen like that going.
You don't find too many like that.
