Spurned peace proposal was neither equitable nor just

Well, I guess Arafat should have addressed this in his counter-proposal. Oh, that's right, he never made one.

Anyone who thinks that the Palestinians are ever going to get full sovereignty -- and thus the right to invite Iraqi tanks into the West Bank -- is just whistling Dixie. The Israelis will not negotiate national suicide.

Who cares what the UN Partition was? The Arabs rejected the UN Partition 54 years ago. Since then they started and lost four wars. This has not improved their bargaining position, what a surprise.

The running disaster story called Palestinian leadership has spent these 54 years rejecting half a loaf; only the full loaf will do for them. And what has it got them?

If the Arabs ever get serious about peace, they are going to have to deal with today's reality. A majority of the Israelis still want to end the occupation and live in peace. But they're not going to put their necks on the block for anybody's theoretical idea of what an "equitable and just" settlement looks like.
