I do not purport to know where Ray derives his info from or what he thinks on all matters, unless he popsts sources, which he sometimes does. So I don't know whether he factors in the domino theory.

But I factor in our oil needs, corporate motives and less known theories as well. For example, my Dad, who flew recon over the Ho Chi Minh Trail, believes there's a historical reason that played a part: China has cyclical baby booms which puts pressure on it to expand in pursuit of needed resources. It was breaking out to the south and pressure there forced it to go north, into Russia. Forcing a clash between the Communist powers.

True? I don't know. There were border conflicts. It's reasonable to think that may have been a strategy of planners, but things like this can't be known down to the nth.

Larger issues that obviously played a role, such as domino theory and oil interests, are matters beyond much debate, imo.
