Base of operations does not mean a military base. But certainly, our military and theirs have interacted.

Well, CHKP is just one example of the net infrastructure. Here's the point I was trying to make: business2.com

Best intentions and integrity are fine things, and may be part of the equation too. But I see little evidence of similar amounts of aid being utilized elsewhere where best intentions and integrity could help a lot, such as in Africa. The Jewish have suffered, but so have many other ethnicities and faiths; how can one be integrity and not the other?

I guess this is off topic, but since you brought it up, re: Israel and the Net - StarBand, innovative two-way broadband satellite internet, is from Gilat Satellites, which is Israeli. StarBand hasn't been a great investment but the customers like it.

Satellite phones and satellite internet are popular ideas in the Middle East - one of bin Laden's brothers is (was?) a partner in Iridium (back from the grave!), the Sheik that Giuliani gave the check back to is a partner in Teledesic. Thuraya is a successful United Arab Emirates sat phone company. ACES is a successful Indonesian/Philippine/Thai sat phone company.

Osama bin Laden has a sat phone.

To say we supported them for a base of operations to defend those who hate Isreal is marginal at best.

I have a news flash for you: those who hate Israel also hate us, for the same reasons. They just hate Israel worse for being over there.

When the chips are down, would you really rather rely on Saudi Arabia? I think we can all see how well that is working at the moment.
