SAN JOSE -- Continuing the fierce price war in the microprocessor market, Intel Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. are reportedly expected to cut the tags on their respective products, according to reports from Reuters.

On Sunday, Intel is expected to reduce the price of its fastest chips. The company's 2-GHz Pentium 4 processor is $562 right now, but it will slash the price by 30% to about $400 or so, the report said.

Intel of Santa Clara, Calif. will also cut the price of its 1.9-GHz Pentium 4 processors, as well as certain Pentium III chips, the report said.

Following that move, AMD of Sunnyvale, Calif. will cut the prices of its Athlon family of processors, they added.
