Mike, re >ground action with special ops is an important thing to do if only to deflect arab criticism.< Deflecting Arab criticism is a poor reason for ground action. There will always be Arab criticism, no matter what we do. Let our military decide based on military considerations.

I don't believe we should risk the lives of our elite fighting forces to "deflect arab criticism." The phony support of propped up arab dictatorships is not worth one American soldier's life. I have to trust Rumsfeld and the military to conduct an effective war. They have learned the lesson of Vietnam. The American people will not accept the deaths of sons and daughters unless it is obviously in the national interest and it is part of an all out effort to win. Afghanistan has always been difficult and it continues to be. I am glad that Rumsfeld said that we will continue through Ramadan. There is no place for political niceties when American lives are on the line.

How can Bush inspire confidence when he can't answer a simple direct question? After a sickeningly long pause, he "answers" with some memorized line.
