Are you sure that Molly Ivins didn't write that? Or maybe it was Jim Hightower. All of their hackneyed metaphors are working overtime in this piece. There's no better substitute for actual thinking than a bit of indiscriminate derogation of "many-headed corporate hydra[e]", which, redundancy aside, hardly seems relevant. If a corporate entity has one of its heads cut off, do two grow in its place? Later they speak of another "well-connected corporate hydra...spreading its tentacles". Tentacles? A hydra has the body of a hound... do they mean paws?

"The fire next time"- have even half of the writers who use that phrase ever read James Baldwin?
