Also I don't understand why we didn't wipe out those 5,000 dummies who crossed the border from Pakistan with weapons slung over their shoulders to support the Taliban. Killing them close to the border would have saved the trouble of transporting the bodies all the way back to the border.

This, while perhaps fine on some threads, it does not meet the charter of this one.

Remember the discussions about Bomb the hell outta'em!-type comments? I thought you would...

Hi BirdDog; Re the 5,000 Pakistani Taliban volunteers... I don't think they were allowed into Afghanistan by the Pakistani authorities. In addition, the Taliban told them that they didn't have enough food for them, so they should stay in Pakistan.

If they did cross the border they would form a juicy target that the US would not overlook, I would guess. The US has never been shy about putting enemy soldiers in body bags, and having them packaged into a nice tight 100 vehicle convoy would be too convenient to pass up. Recent press about British and American volunteers being killed by bombing in Afghanistan would indicate the US approach to this.

My feeling on the whole thing is that the demonstrators didn't have any intention of actually ending up in a hopeless fight in Afghanistan. They just wanted to put on a display of intent to assist.

If they'd really wanted to fight in Afghanistan they'd have forced or snuck their way across, and they'd have paid the price.
