My son, son-in-law and best friend all teach in high school.
All have advanced degrees, love what they do and make very nice money. They also love having time of their own each year to travel, etc. It's not for everyone but it's not as bad as the education establishment would have us believe.

I said that we did not need our best students to teach school. That is rather different from accepting sheer incompetence. If one cannot fill up the classrooms with competent teachers without raising wages, by all means, raise wages. On the other hand, there must be a means of making sure that we are not merely paying more to dubious teachers, which means that there can be no great infusion of money without more stringent standards, including competency examinations, which the teacher's unions fight tooth and nail........
