Fly by Wire.

That is were the pilot moves a stick and computers moves the plane. This itself is nothing new. Many aircraft have used computer to fly the plane.
The real impact of fly by wire, came much more recently were the older plane’s back up system was cables. So the older planes used computer from inputs to the stick. Now the pilot with additional force would use the old back system “hard steel cable”, the cable could override the computers electrical signal. This was important due to the confidence of computers. Now Fly By Wire is saying no need for backup steel cables, we will use backup computer.
So the pilot does not fly the plane only suggest then the computer makes a decision to maneuver.
This is similar to my 740IL BMW. I step on the gas pedal, but a computers says, “No Stan the wheals are spinning so lets go slower”, or “your entering into this curve too fast, so the computer applied the brakes”.
