I'm not a freemason, but I happen to know that they were the cohesive force behind the vigilantes of Montana. Alder Gulch had 103 murders in the space of a year until the vigilantes started hanging the road runners. The vigilantes' code word was 3-7-77. Three feet long, Seven feet deep, and 77 inches long. To this day it is the motto on the badges of the Montana State Highway Patrol.

Nathaniel P. Langford wrote their history in a book called "Vigilante Days and Ways." He later became Superintendent of the first national park in the world, Yellowstone.
