Husband shoots PC, not wife, gets jail By: Becky Orr Wyoming Tribune-Eagle CHEYENNE - A man who pulled out a revolver Saturday and fired a shot at a computer monitor while his wife sat nearby will spend the next six months in the Laramie County jail. Joseph A. Griebel, 45, pleaded guilty Monday in Laramie County Circuit Court to one count of misdemeanor reckless endangering. Judge Denise Nau sentenced him to a year in jail, of which she suspended 180 days and gave one day credit. He will be released on May 1. The suspended sentence, which requires Griebel to refrain from drinking alcohol and possessing firearms, will be in effect for one year from his release from jail. Cheyenne Police were called to a report of a disturbance and a report of a shot being fired Saturday night at the Stage Coach Motel on West Lincolnway. Griebel and his wife, Connie, were staying at the motel. Connie Griebel said she and her husband had argued earlier because she didn't want to go out drinking with him, said Laramie County District Attorney Jon Forwood in a court record. Joseph Griebel already was intoxicated, Forwood added. Connie Griebel decided to ignore her husband and sat at the computer to play a game, the court record said. Joseph Griebel was on the bed about six feet away when he pulled out a .22-caliber handgun. He shot the monitor and said, "That's what I think of your monitor," Forwood said in the document. Connie Griebel got up and left the room. When police arrived, they found Joseph Griebel asleep in the bed, Forwood said in the document. A test conducted at the jail showed that Joseph Griebel's blood alcohol level was slightly above .20, which is more than twice the legal limit of intoxication in Wyoming. Cheyenne Police arrested Joseph Griebel around 8 p.m. Saturday for attempted murder. But Forwood said Monday that what happened did not fit the elements of such a crime. Connie Griebel is OK, Forwood said. Information in a police report stated she had a small scratch on her arm, which may have been caused by the breaking of the computer screen. Police Lt. Jeff Schulz said Monday that Joseph Griebel was aiming for the monitor. Officers found two handguns at the motel, one of which Joseph Griebel used, the police report said. Joseph Griebel was convicted of domestic violence in 1993 in Iowa and in 1997 in Colorado, Forwood added in the document.
