Strange to see an announcement that 2 trailing edge (or nearly so) fabs will be built by the Chinese. siliconstrategies.com Sast Group to build two fabs for IC market entry By Jake Chen EE Times (10/29/01 17:21 p.m. EST) SHENZHEN, China — Sast Group, a Chinese producer of video CD components, plans to enter the semiconductor market and will build two 200-mm wafer fabrication facilities here. The production lines will feature 0.25-micron process technology, the company announced at the Shenzhen High-Tech Fair earlier this month. Total investment is expected to reach $1.2 billion, with output expected to reach 40,000 wafers per month. The project has already been listed among the Shenzhen municipal government's list of key technology projects in 2001.
