I can agree with that. True, gold can go down during deflationary environment. The central banks will fight deflation, though - they know how to print. In fact, the Fed has already started printing (coupon passes) again! But gold is money, not just a commodity; gold supply has been inflated by bullion banks, much like money supply. The difference is, gold cannot be printed.

The situation in the US is different from Japan in 1989 and from 1929: US is now the world largest debtor, not creditor. And debtor's currencies fall, not rise.
