The WTC attack will probably end up costing well over $100 billion. And that does not include all the extra spending on security and defense and all the lost economic output because of the impact on the economy. And, of course, the "cost" of 5000+ lost lives is incalculable.

In any case, if a radical SA chooses not to sell to the US, it will have absolutely no impact on the US economy. We will buy our oil from those that are willing to sell to us. Plenty of them around.

But like I keep saying again and again, we don't need SA oil. We just need a little sacrifice, and I am pretty sure the American people will be more than happy to oblige, if they are asked. But our fearless leaders are too chicken to ask for this sacrifice. Perhaps their oil company campaign contributors don't like it? Nah ... it's a free market thing. So, let's spend a few extra hundred billions on extra security and defense to preserve a free market of a few ten billions in oil.
