Some on this thread get too emotional, but even Indian government listens to Ike cry of Pakistani stability. After several days of hawkish posturing by his ministerial colleagues, Defence Minister George Fernandes on Tuesday went out of his way to reassure Pakistan. Are these Ike words, no but just <"This should be a cause of concern not only for the (Pakistan) leadership, but also for India. Any break-up of Pakistan will jeopardise the stability of the sub-continent." > George Fernandes another praise from Hindustan Times

Pak nukes are in safe hands: Fernandes

After several days of hawkish posturing by his ministerial colleagues, Defence Minister George Fernandes on Tuesday went out of his way to reassure Pakistan on three counts.
First, Fernandes said he was confident that Pakistan would not allow terrorists to get hold of its nuclear weapons. "I would give them credit (for) being people capable of handling their nuclear assets," Fernandes said at a seminar on global terrorism here.

Second, Fernandes said the US tactic of cashing in on obligations accumulated during its close relationship with Pakistan could create civil and military disturbances in Pakistan. "This should be a cause of concern not only for the (Pakistan) leadership, but also for India. Any break-up of Pakistan will jeopardise the stability of the sub-continent."

Third, Fernandes said the Indian armed forces had till date "scrupulously" avoided destroying terrorist training camps "not far from India’s border" since most of them were close to civilian areas.

Fernandes, however, warned: "One should not rule out the likelihood of India having to fight its own war against terrorism once the US-led alliance calls off its engagement with Afghanistan, and goes back to its cosy relationship with Pakistan."

People need to get over accidental casualties caused by war....the US isn't targeting civilians.....unlike world wars of the past this is nothing....if dirty nukes or worse are unleashed on US soil I have no doubt the military will remove the kit gloves.

America may be forced to unleash real power someday? A hardline stance would be if the US is attacked again we would go nuclear, remember the cuban missle crisis. The US doesn't have to play by any rules in war when the adversary knows no limitations to it's deeds. We had no problem bombing Germany or Japan to end the war. The US will not stand for unilateral attacks on it's citizens.

Hi IQBAL LATIF; Re the Hindustan Times... What's there political perspective, as compared to The Times of India?

Thanks. By the way, I'm of the opinion that the anthrax is home grown US, for a bunch of reasons. Of course I've been wrong before.
