OT:

you been waiting a long time to use that line????but if the blind squirrels beat me,and i beat you, where does that leave kirk????

I don't think this is the place for a pissing contest, but since you asked.

I am well, well ahead of where I was in 1997. Didn't you go bearish back then?
google.com

I run a newsletter portfolio (I too have a web site) that is up 167.2% since inception on 9/30/98 vs the S&P only being up about 8.6% since then. Much of that came from buying stocks like LRCX, C, FDX and AMAT in 1998... then taking profits off in 1999 and 2000. (I also started out with UTEK and took profits in that in 2001 for a double). The ideas here help me to add to profits by playing the major tops and bottoms for AMAT and LRCX for extra return. (I added some on 10/17/00 at $15.875 and sold in early 2000 for a 64% gain just as an example...)

I have some bad picks too, but I do OK overall and have beaten the S&P for the last decade by a wide margin. It seems most of you bears were wrong when there were HUGE gains to be had and your only fame now is being right just like a stuck clock.

Perhaps I am wrong? Do you have a PUBLISHED model portfolio going back 3 or more years that I can look at? Maybe you have added value and I will appologize for the blind squirrel refernce but not for defending my friend.

I get much good info to think about from the good people of this thread such as Ian that you took upon yourself to insult so I felt a need to stick up for my cyber friend.

so, to answer your question "where does that leave kirk?" I'd have to answer "ahead of you".

best regards
Kirk out

Bill,
What are your views on amat and the market? Mark indicated that you might have much to add to this thread. I am a willing listener. mike
