I believe that Tench's point was that you can't copyright numbers. As an example, he showed how AMD leveraged Intel's name brand on the Pentium III by naming their product the K6-III and how AMD did the same thing done with the Athlon 4, named after the Pentium 4, all without consequence from Intel.
