ICE Launches Hourly Internet U.S. Electricity Trading
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Internet-based commodity market IntercontinentalExchange (ICE) said Wednesday it began trading hourly U.S. electricity products on Friday, Oct. 26.

The hourly products allow trading in physical electric power for delivery during a single specified hour and for the balance of the day on the same day of the trade, ICE said in a statement.

Previously, the shortest duration that power could be traded on the exchange was the peak or off-peak period for delivery the next entire day, ICE said.

The hourly power products are being listed for all the West and PJM (Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland) power hubs currently traded on the exchange, although additional hubs may be added later, ICE said.

Other products traded on the ICE include natural gas and power products such as physically-delivered gas at fixed and indexed prices, natural gas basis and swing swaps, and firm power.

ICE also trades oil swaps, including crude oil, fuel oil, gas oil/heating oil, jet fuel, gasoline and naphtha.

Additionally, precious metals, including gold and silver spot, forwards and options are traded.

ICE, an Atlanta-based electronic marketplace, was founded last year by BP (BP.L), Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE), Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS - news), Morgan Stanley Dean Witter (NYSE:MWD - news), Royal Dutch/Shell (RD.AS)(SHEL.L), Societe Generale (SOGN.PA) and TotalFinaElf (TOTF.PA).

ICE also has offices in New York, Houston, Chicago, London and Singapore.
