Well, my first experience with an XP1800 hasn't been very pleasant. Near as I can tell, it spontaneously exploded.

The eXPloder1800. Hmmm, so that's how they got the name... But, there always exists the possibility that it didn't really blow up. It might have been just a quanti-explosion that occurred.

Ton - Re: ". I'm not new at this. For nor discernable reason, this CPU just flat out exploded. No idea why."

Jerry Sanders HIMSELF explained the problem in AMD's recent conference call:

jc-news.com

"We are doing extremely well, Athlon XP is hot, customers like it, I am very excited about that"

Ref - " XP1800 fall down, go boom! ...Near as I can tell, it spontaneously exploded. "

Dont let the Defense Dept see this post!

They might begin dropping XP1800's over Afghanistan.

And I am sure that the DOD would not mind paying $1000 each for such a compact bomb, which can be dropped by a RPV ! That may be best way to make money in the chip business these days !
