I think his legend was built somewhat after the fact. Till he died, I had never heard about him in the media. All of a suddent he became this guy who was above reproach, daredevil etc. Maybe I was underinformed before. In any case, he should have known better. With ISI knowing about a lot of stuff, his secret would have never been safe. It doesn't matter what the top brass in Pakistan think, I bet the ISI is crawling with fundamentalists..
