You guys had it soft. I grew up right outside of Washington. We never had duck and cover. It was pointless. If there were a nuclear war, we were dead.

We were 50 miles away from an Air Force Base so we had the drills also. A horn blasted out three times for the air raid drill and we all filed into the basement area of the school which was almost underground and had the most protection as the property was hilly. We were sandwiched in there like sardines.

During the first drill after the Cuban crisis we all thought it was for real!
