Actually, if you're more than a couple of miles off the PCH or Wilshire, you might like Birmingham better. I can swear to the first part of that and have doctor, lawyer, judge friends in B'ham who would swear to the latter (I can't swear because I haven't been there since I was 10). There are wonderful places in Alabama once you overcome the, "Help-me-Jesus-we're-in-ALABAMA" shock. I met an old pal from Tokyo last summer to play some golf on the Robt. Trent Jones courses in Mobile and Dothan -- Fabulous!!! We spent the last night at Marriott's Grand Hotel in Pt Clear. Full moon shining on the bay, t-storm light show across the bay, 3 July fireworks on the beach, live "big band" and friendly people dancing under the stars.....Hard to beat, really. Hey! I'm not saying it's the south of France, you understand :-) On the other hand, you don't have to fly to get there. M
