Hi twfowler; Re those thousand foot mushroom clouds. B-52s drop 1000 lb bombs, and those result in 800 foot clouds:

If they start dropping FAEs of any significant size we'll know all about it. FAEs are much brighter (hotter) than regular bombs. I don't think that the press will have trouble distinguishing them once they've seen them in action.
