The perpetrators, the liberals and Democrats, believe that right behavior is known and can be achieved by manipulation. They don't believe that right behavior is natural. They don't trust people because they don't trust themselves. They believe in the rod. If corporate and personal incomes taxes are substantially reduced, the reasons for inventing AMT disappear. When personal taxes are raised people seek ways to avoid paying taxes. It is the intent of Congress that one should avoid paying taxes. The higher marginal rates go, the greater is the effort to avoid paying. Gradually under increased marginal tax rates people notice that some rich people don't pay any taxes. The tax liability has been eliminated as allowed under law. People perceive this as abuse, so they pass a law forcing anyone trying to implement the intent of Congress to be levied a tax, the AMT, regardless of losses. The AMT is levied on everyone including those for which it wasn't intended. The effect was to raise taxes on the low end. Thank you Democrats and liberals. They wanted the AMT so that greedy corporations and the rich would have to "pay their fair share", and they didn't give a damn who would get killed in their war against wealth. They didn't even give a damn whether it killed their own troops as they sold the lies to those on the low end under the banner of "fairness". The result of this "fairness" is to punish everyone and discourage effort at the same time that it rewards indolence, consumption, and a general disregard of everything. So both corporations and individuals are pulled down and hurt under this stupid tax rule, and it matters little who is hurt the most. The Democrats won't allow the removal of the AMT for individuals, but even their liberal advisers concede that maybe the corporate AMT should be reduced during a depression. Maybe. The war on wealth is far more important than promoting the economic health of the nation to the Democrats.
