My only concern is that people near me don't advocate killing me and my children, and don't support those that do. I'm sure you can understand where I'm coming from I'm completely agnostic about nationalism, religions, philosophies, cults, or personal emotional episodes, with the exception of threats to personal safety, the safety of my community and country, and, finally, when we someday have the luxury of thinking about it, the world. The problem I'm personally wrestling with is how to understand the large Islamic entity, who, what, why, to what extent it is spreading itself, in terms of any threat it may be to the above hierarchy of people. I don't know the answers. The naivete may be all mine. For example, how about these questions: - Do you think suicide bombers go to heaven and so on? - Would you feel obligated to go to the police if you had knowledge of criminal activity by a believer? Such as a terrorist act or support/concealment of a violent act? - Do you think Islamic countries can find a stable future, without constant warfare? Do you think the religion can be practiced in a way that is tolerant of others? I'm getting mixed messages, perhaps due to my own ignorance and shock of events. I see Salmon Rushdie sentenced to death for writing a book, and no such proclamation from Imams for violent criminals who invoke the name of Allah for their crimes. I see Pakis dancing for joy in having nuclear weapons, and have the feeling they have no concern for the consequences to themselves or others. My feeling is that many, many lives could be saved if religious leaders of Islam would proclaim violence as sending people to Hell rather than Heaven. I don't see that happening. Maybe you can explain a solution.
