You raise an interesting point ... if baggage handlers at airports are federalized, then why not other occupations also in the front line of the so-called War on Terrorism?

The first thing that sprung to my mind when the bill was proposed was expanding the Postal Service to provide this service.

Re: "Federalizing doesn't imply competency or loyalty." No, but if these workers are going to be held accountable to strict federal standards, then why even bother with a for-profit company serving as a middle man? Bottom line is the Senate voted 100-0 to federalize these workers, and now the wacko faction of the Republican Party led by Armey and DeLay is trying to politicize this to further its own warped right-wing agenda.

(I don't believe my wife ever had to take a loyalty oath to teach school. )
