SGI provides the computational infrastructure required to effect solutions like deploying a 'Star Wars' solution. In a sense the limited time to compute a solution to intercept and destroy an incoming missile requires enormous computing and having the computing where it is needed. But in fighting a war against those who hide in caves requires the analysis and processing of enormous volumes of data. But after detection a method of destruction has to be decided. How is a thread to eliminated. In the presentations I saw how a company can create a complete 3d accurate virtual model of Manhatten just using photos. This is now being routinely done. then you have TOPSCENE -- A mission-planning rehearsal system developed by Lockheed Martin for the U.S. Navy, TOPSCENE converts imagery from satellites and other sources to create 3D fly-throughs of real-world terrain in staged battlefield scenarios. Space-to-Face -- Imagery leader Space Imaging captures high-resolution imagery data transmitted from space by its IKONOS satellite that can then be resolved to one-meter commercial high-resolution imagery on the ground. This imagery is called Space-to-Face because it can detect objects like individual trees, boats, cars, roads and even people from more than 400 miles above the Earth. InReality(TM) and RealSite(TM) -- Designed by Harris Corporation., InReality and RealSite are homeland security visualization tools for urban security planning and monitoring. Harris has constructed databases of many major metropolitan areas in the U.S. Command and control -- SGI systems are being used to tie together a number of air-based weapons systems into a single command and control architecture to drive forward network-centric warfare capabilities. SGI Federal and the Air Force Space Warfare Center have entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) for the development, test and evaluation of selected command and control technologies, decision support systems and display technologies (see separate release dated Oct. 29, 2001). It does not matter if it's a pilot or special ops, A complete stunningly accurate 3D visualization can be created and all the visual cues of what the terrain will look like from the perspective of those who will go in can be created. And even what and how different sensor will show can be simulated. This has enormous value. tom watson tosiwmee
