Jerome and AMAT investors,

Seems AMAT is releasing one press release per day this week.....

Applied Materials Wins Semiconductor International's Best Product Award for Its Enabling SACVD Technology
Sub-Atmospheric Chemical Vapor Deposition (SACVD) Technology Recognized for Revolutionizing Gap-Fill Performance Over Multiple Device Generations
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 2001-- Applied Materials, Inc. (Nasdaq:AMAT - news) has won the coveted Editors' Choice Best Product Award from Semiconductor International magazine for its market-leading SACVD technology that supports critical dielectric gap-fill applications in transistor formation. Applied Materials' SACVD technology revolutionized the industry seven years ago by delivering unsurpassed step coverage, enabling applications such as shallow trench isolation (STI) and pre-metal dielectric deposition.

``A product that receives the Editors' Choice Best Products' award has been verified to demonstrate superior and proven production capabilities that advance the art of semiconductor manufacturing,'' noted Peter Singer, Semiconductor International editor in chief. ``Several customers nominated Applied Materials' SACVD process and have testified to its long-term exemplary performance in gap-fill deposition.''

Introduced in 1994, Applied Materials' SACVD technology was a revolutionary development that combined ozone with TEOS to achieve exceptional step coverage and void-free deposition in high aspect ratio inter-device gaps. By processing wafers at sub-atmospheric pressures, SACVD also provides the productivity advantages of higher deposition rates while simultaneously minimizing deposition variations to deliver repeatable and reliable gap-fill performance. Through continuous process optimization, Applied Materials' SACVD technology has demonstrated the advanced capability to fill 50 nanometer gaps at an 8:1 aspect ratio.

Applied Materials' SACVD technology can be implemented on both the high-productivity Centura® and Producer® platforms. The company's latest SACVD product, the Producer SACVD HT-USG 300mm system, delivers uniform and repeatable void-free gap-fill with extremely low contamination levels and no charging damage. In addition to STI and zero thermal budget PMD applications, the Producer SACVD HT-USG can be used to deposit gate liner stacks, deep trench masks and sacrificial oxides for implant masks. The system's Remote Clean(TM) technology offers superior chamber cleaning performance and emits virtually no global warming gases.

``It is an honor to receive Semiconductor International's Best Product award for our SACVD technology,'' said Steve Ghanayem, general manager, Premetal Dielectric Division at Applied Materials. ``When we developed SACVD, the industry needed a way to extend CVD gap-fill to sub-half micron devices. The success of our technology is underscored by the fact that we have shipped over 600 systems to date. By continually improving our SACVD process, we have extended this technology to provide a proven, cost-effective deposition solution for the 100 nanometer generation.''

Applied Materials (Nasdaq:AMAT - news), the largest supplier of products and services to the global semiconductor industry, is one of the world's leading information infrastructure providers. Applied Materials enables Information for Everyone(TM) by helping semiconductor manufacturers produce more powerful, portable and affordable chips. I have never seen a company go from being a Gorilla to a Chimpanzee (at least in the eyes of the WS crowd) as fast as EMC has. I am long and strong EMC for the first time, as I believe they will transform themselves, like all great companies must do at one time or another.

7:45AM EMC Corp (EMC) 12.32: UBS Warburg removes EMC from its Global Tech Focus List and replaces it with Automatic Data (ADP 51.66); says changes are based on relative near-term fundamentals of the two companies and not on confidence in the long-term outlook for these companies.
