"Having said that, my most recent experience with union officials was pretty unsatisfactory. They seemed like a bunch of professional victims, very adversarial and not very sophisticated when it comes to addressing grievances in a professional manner"

That matches my impression pretty well. Glad that you posted your experience.

"On the other hand, capital has a way of fostering a sense of entitlement as well, which you seem to overlook"

This is a good point, and I don't think I have overlooked it. What I really hate is dishonesty and corruption. Financial power and political power both create the breeding ground for this. I am for exposing and correcting injustices wherever they occur. The problem (imo) is that what started as a means to counter the finacial corrutption has now turned into the same thing. But while they (unions) do it they encourage the mistrust and dislike amongst the workers and the management and perpetuate the cycle. As I have stated to flapjack, good people can find jobs and good companies value their employees. Unions are not completley unnceccessary now, but for the most part they are past their point of usefulness.
